What they're saying about Jaxson Dart's historic NFL Debut

The Jaxson Dart era began for the New York Giants on Sunday and it resulted in the former Ole Miss quarterback immediately making history, and picking up his first win.
Dart led the Giants to a 21-18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers and became the first quarterback in NFL history to win his debut against a 3-0 team.
In his first game replacing Russell Wilson, Dart completed 13 of 20 pass attempts for 111 yards and a touchdown. On the ground he finished as the Giants second-leading rusher with 54 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. The score came on a 15-yard run up the middle in the on the Giants first possession of the game.
“This is what the Giants wanted to have happen with Jaxson Dart,” Rich Eisen said on Monday during the ‘Rich Eisen Show.’ “He doesn’t look overwhelmed. He does bring the swagger. He doesn’t turn it over. He doesn’t make the mistakes. He lets the defense do the rest. Check the box and do it against the 3-0 Chargers that look like world beaters.”
Dart’s style of play was noticeably different than that of Wilson’s. The former Rebel will take off and run if he sees an opening or a play breaking down. Did that for three years in Oxford, but the NFL experts and fans worry that could turn into a downside of Dart if he continues to take big hits.

After Sunday’s performance that tune changed, some.
“Him opening up the entire offense for the Giants was so noticeable,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport said. “Russ Wilson threw the ball fine. Obviously didn’t play well enough to not get benched, but this is exactly what they needed. …There are some positives of forcing him to read the offense, go through his progressions, figure it out and whatever happens to the Giants and however many wins they get, they’re clearly heading in a better direction now than they were last year.”

Fresh off his first win of his NFL career Dart is already becoming one of the more popular players in the league. It was reported on Monday that Dart currently has the No. 1 selling jersey.
The experts in Las Vegas also took note and the Offensive Rookie of the Year odds shifted since Sunday. Dart currently has the third-best odds to win the award at +450 on BetMGM. He is behind Tampa Bay wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and Las Vegas running bakc Ashton Jeanty.
There is a long way to go in Dart’s first season but next up is a chance to play close to Oxford with a trip to the winless New Orleans Saints on Sunday at Noon CT.
“This is just the start,” Dart said succinctly on Sunday.
