Brandon Finney Dishes on His Early Freshman Season

Oregon freshman cornerback Brandon Finney has burst onto the national college football scene in a big way. He’s not only one of the top freshman corners in the country, he’s one of the best in the country period.
He was available to the media for the first time on Wednesday. Here are the top comments from Finney and his stellar start to the season.
On Past Couple Months:
“For me, really, coming here, Coach Lanning, Coach Tosh, Coach Wadood, Coach Hamp, they had a plan for a process. And for me, it was just really just sticking to that process. I mean, that’s worked my whole life. Why would I stop once I got here? That’s really it.”
On Playing at Penn State:
“I mean, it was pretty surreal. I mean, there’s many times throughout the week just preparing, just like, things could have been a lot different, but it’s just kind of getting right back to where I am and just be like, I’m here now. I’m here to be great.”
On Knowing When He’d Play Early:
“I feel like that’s a big thing, but I feel like it’s also my competitive nature. I feel like no matter what room I’m in, I’m the best player. So it’s just like, I mean, even right now, I’m not really satisfied with what I’ve done so far. I’m not trying to be the best freshman. I’m trying to be the best corner in America.”
On Knowing Previous Top Oregon CB’s:
“Yeah, I was very familiar with guys like Khyree Jackson, who was actually a big inspiration to me, just playing cornerback in general. And obviously Christian Gonzalez, I know he played here.”
On Young Players Stepping Up:
“It’s not really a pride thing it’s kind of what’s expected I mean you come here knowing that it’s a young team you expect to play so yeah it’s not really a pride thing it’s just like we can’t we came here to do a job we’re trying to push to win a national championship we don’t care how young we are. We know that our impact has to be at a high level.”

On Rutgers’ Passing Attack:
“Yeah, obviously one of the best passing offenses in the nation. I mean, when you hear that, it’s just excitement. Get to play against some great receivers, a great quarterback. And for me, I’m just excited, really excited.”
On Who He watched Growing Up:
“Yeah, for me, I really grew up watching Jalen Ramsey. So I definitely like want my play style to be like him. And at some point be able to play multiple positions. Also, Jaycee Horn. I feel like he’s a really good press technique corner. And yeah, that’s really it.”
On the Interception:
“Yeah, I mean, it was an exciting play. But for me, it’s kind of just like satisfaction. I knew a play like that was going to come at some point, but when a play happens like that in one game, it’s satisfactory. When it happens multiple games, it’s greatness, so that’s what I’m trying to be, great.”
On Knowing Ify Obidwegu:
“Yeah, I was very aware of Ify. I was actually looking up to him as an older corner. But, I mean, it’s my guy. I have a great relationship with him. I feel like he’s a really good dude. He’s not going to say much, but he’s going to get the job done.”
