Bryce Boettcher: "Everyone was juiced to be back."

Oregon Duck Washingtonby: Justin Hopkins8 hours ago

Oregon senior linebacker Bryce Boettcher is one of Oregon’s leaders on the team. Not just on the defense, but a true team leader. Very few get the opportunity to grow up in Eugene and then have the chance to be a starter for the Oregon Ducks.

Boettcher is one of the few that have been at Oregon since Tosh Lupoi has been here. He’s learned the defense under coach Lupoi who will leave after the playoffs to lead Cal. Boettcher talked about what it was like to play for Tosh, watch him grow and get that next opportunity.

Here are his top comments including talking about getting some needed time off.

On Getting Another Home Game:

“Yeah, I’m pumped, man. Like you said, I thought USC was probably the last game. And, you know, I was praying for that five spot and we got it. So it’s pretty cool to have this opportunity and I’m enjoying it.”

On Tosh Getting a HC Job:

“I’m excited for him. He deserves it. He works extremely hard and, you know, does everything in his power to put us in a good situation. It’s been cool to, you know, be here since day one with him and see, you know, myself develop and him develop as well. I love him as a coach, so proud of him.”

On Getting a Break:

“Yeah, I think it was super valuable. Obviously, you’ve got to still prepare and work hard, get in the weight room. You can’t let your lungs go too much, but there’s something to be said for, you know, getting a little break from each other and then once you come back everything is a little fresh and exciting and everyone wants to work a little bit harder. So i think coach landing and the staff planned it out perfectly and got us a good schedule because when we came back it was everyone was juiced to be back so it was fun.”

On Tosh Changing the Narrative on Defense:

“Yeah and I agree with you you know since I’ve been a Duck fan since I was really little Oregon’s always been known for offense and speed and I think you know once coach Lanning and Tosh came over we definitely changed the narrative to physicality and relentless effort on defense. And over the years just progressively we’ve gotten better on the defensive side of the ball. Which is cool to see. It’s just a testament to the culture they’ve set here and obviously the guys before.”

On JMU’s RBs:

“Yeah, they’re good, man. They run behind their pads, get a break in tackles. You know, we’re going to have to tackle low and be physical. They’ve got a solid O-line, a solid line too, without the lower line, their running game wouldn’t be as good as it is. So yeah, we just gotta play physical ball, starts up front with our D line and I know they’re gonna start out. And then us backers doing our job. So I’m excited for the opportunity.”
