After a massive week last week, going 5-1 on official plays and 6-0 on leans, we’re back with more picks for Week 5.  Hopefully we can duplicate our success from last week, although I don’t like this slate of games nearly as much.  This week I’ve simply decided to give my Top 10 picks, listed in order of preference, rather than breaking them into official plays and leans.

I’ve included a short explanation for the top picks.

Please note that the lines below are from Wednesday and some of the lines may have moved since then, so please check the lines available to you with your preferred sportsbook.

1.   Ole Miss ML vs LSU.  The spread is 1.5 points but I’m taking the ML and swallowing a little juice.  This play for me is all based on LSU not being as good as their record indicates.   Their two big wins have been close battles against Clemson and Florida, who have shown themselves as subpar this season.  Now they go on the road to face Mississippi in their biggest home game of the season.  I think Mississippi’s offensive efficiency will be too much for LSU to handle.  I like Kiffin at home here.  I actually think Ole Miss wins by a TD or more.

2.  Old Dominion -15.5 over Liberty and (3) Old Dominion Team total over 33.5 points.  This version of Liberty is not nearly as good as recent years past.  And the Monarchs are a good team, giving Indiana all they could handle on the road before succumbing late.   Old Dominion is significantly better than Liberty across the board and should win this one easily.

4. Iowa St -4.5 over Arizona.  While Arizona is off to a 3-0 start, they’re a bit of a paper tiger given the level of competition they’ve played.  This will also be the Wildcats’ first road game of the season.  Opponent-adjusted efficiency stats suggest that Iowa St should be favored by 10+ points.  I agree and think the Cyclones win this one by double digits.

5.  Vanderbilt Team Total over 40.5 points.  The Commodores have been one of the most efficient offenses so far this season, surpassing this total in 3 out of 4 games and in every home game.  While the Utah State defense hasn’t been bad this year, when you account for the quality of opponent, the only good offensive team they faced they gave up 44 points.

6. North Texas -11.5 over South Alabama.  The Mean Green have quietly been lighting up the scoreboard this year.   I expect that to continue on Saturday.  I don’t think South Alabama will be able to keep up in what I think will be a high scoring game.

7.  Notre Dame at Arkansas over 62.5 points.

8.  Navy -13.5 over Rice.

9.  Kansas -4.5 over Cincinnati.

10.  Louisville -4.5 over Pitt
