Curt Cignetti Calls Dan Lanning a "Young coaching phenom"

On Monday Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti held his weekly press conference. There’s a top ten matchup headed to Eugene this weekend with his Indiana Hoosiers.
Cignetti has coached in the game for a long time. He clearly has a lot of admiration for Dan Lanning as a young head coach. He’s also well aware of the team he’s about to face in Eugene.
Here are his top quotes from Monday on the Ducks.

Opening Statement:
“All right, good bye week. Got rested up, got practice in, kept the fundamentals and timing sharp, and now it’s 100% focus on Oregon. Great opponent, great team, a lot of great players, extremely well coached. Big, fast, athletic, physical, depth.
Coach Lanning done a tremendous job recruiting, development, retention. Probably one of the most impressive young coaching phenoms to come around in a while, I would say. Haven’t been in this game for a little bit. They’re a great football team. Looking forward to challenge confidence in our team.”
On Dante Moore & WR’s:
“Yeah, well, he’s playing really well. He’s another guy. Got big-time arm talent, quick release, accurate. He’s very athletic, very fluid, can run, extend plays, change of direction, getting the ball out on time, rhythm. And he snaps it off really quick. He’s really impressive on tape. And the wide receivers are equally as impressive, tight end, good depth there, good depth at running back. They spread the ball around. They use the field, and they run the ball well. So as he’s played more, you can see he’s building on his success, confidence, belief. And he’s one of the great quarterbacks in the country, there’s no doubt about it.”

Matching up on the LOS:
“Well, we’re not as big as Oregon. I mean, they can roll four inside guys at D-Tackle at 330-plus. I mean, they got big people in there. So I guess we’re gonna find out this week but what I would say that about Ohio State, Notre Dame, that you can dwell on the line of scrimmage but I don’t think we won the battle at any position those games.”
On Fernando Mendoza’s Growth:
“Well, he made some outstanding throws against Iowa. I don’t recall that exact comment. Left some plays out there too, but he was under pressure quite a bit as well. I just want Fernando, like the rest of the guys on the team, to relax and play their game. We’re just going to go out there and play our game and play it well.”
On Preparing to Play at Oregon:
“Well, I think any time you do something the second time, it helps that you’ve been through it one time before. And Iowa was, it was a sellout, it was loud. So to have that kind of preparation going into this game will help.”
On Matching up with Oregon’s Size:
“Well, you put together the best plan for your team that you think gives you the best chance to be successful. But I have confidence in our team, right? They are big, they are athletic, they are a very good football team. We’re a good football team.”
