Oregon senior guard Keeshawn Barthelemy left with an apparent right ankle injury during the Ducks’ 87-78 loss to Arizona Saturday in Eugene.

Midway through the second half, Barthelemy went up for a layup in transition and crumpled to the ground when he landed. UO’s medical staff — as well as head coach Dana Altman — rushed out to check on Barthelemy, who stayed down for several minutes.

He was eventually carried back to the locker room.

While speaking with reporters after the game, Altman was asked about Barthelemy’s status.

“He’s at the hospital getting tests right now,” Altman said. “So, we’ll know for sure. But it didn’t look good.”

Barthelemy, who transferred to Oregon from Colorado ahead of the 2022-23 season, is averaging 8.0 points and 2.4 assists in 17 games, including six starts.

He has dealt with injuries during each of his two seasons with the Ducks and missed several weeks with an ankle injury this year.

“I don’t know if I can say for individual health reasons or the law,” Altman said when asked about the nature of Barthelemy’s injury. “It wasn’t good. That’s all I can say.”

As soon as Barthelemy went down injured on Saturday, Ducks’ center N’Faly Dante and Altman both his visceral reactions. Dante collapsed to the ground in tears, and Altman held his arms around Barthelemy’s shoulders while UO’s medical staff checked on him.

“Basketball is a great game. It’s a fun game. This is the one bad thing — a knee injury, wrist injury, foot — it takes away from the fun,” Altman said when asked about his reaction at the moment. “These guys come here to have fun, compete, play. And (injuries) are the one thing that really takes away from the fun. Seeing (Barthelemy) like that, he had the plantar fascia last year that he tore and missed a bunch of the season.

“I’ve got bad ankles, so when I see bad ankles it makes my stomach cringe. He really was playing good. It’s just really sad to see it.”

Barthelemy produced his best performance of the season during the Ducks’ win over Arizona State on Thursday and racked up 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting off the bench.

Earlier this season, Oregon lost starting guard Jesse Zarzuela for the season due to a broken foot. Centers N’Faly Dante (knee) and Nate Bittle (wrist), forward Mookie Cook (ankle, foot), and Jackson Shelstad (knee) have also missed time due to injury this year.
