Ducks Finish CFB Playoff Rankings No. 1

There was no suspense to where Oregon would finish the college football playoff rankings today. Oregon is the only undefeated team and ended the season with a strong win over rival Washington in Eugene.
With Oregon playing for a Big Ten championship this Saturday, the only real impact of the rankings was to give Oregon fans some insight as to who Oregon could potentially face in the college football playoffs after the conference game. Even should the Ducks lose to Penn State, they will still be in the playoffs just in a different spot.

There has been a lot of healthy debate over the playoff rankings format. Ultimately the No. 1 seed has been almost punished with the matchups presented from the 8/9 game vs finishing 5th playing an extra game and meeting a more favorable matchup after that.
Right now based on tonight’s rankings, Oregon will get the bye as the 1 seed then face the winner of from the 8 vs 9 seed game. With today’s rankings that would be the winner of Tennessee at Ohio State.
