Former Oregon baseball star Tyler Anderson added to All-Star Game roster

When Tyler Anderson signed with Oregon in 2008, it was a monumental moment for a Ducks’ program that had only recently been resurrected after a 28-year hiatus.
Anderson was one of the top prep pitchers in the nation but turned down a pro contract out of high school to commit three years to George Horton’s Oregon team. He became arguably the greatest pitcher in program history and helped establish the Ducks as one of the most competitive programs on the west coast.
Now, more than 13 years after he pitched his first game as a Duck, Anderson is officially a Major League Baseball All-Star for the first time.
On Saturday, the Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander was selected by the National League as an All-Star Game replacement for San Francisco Giants starter Carlos Rondon.
Anderson, 32, is in the midst of a breakout campaign in his first year with the Dodgers. In 17 appearances, he owns a 10-1 record, 81 strikeouts and a 2.96 ERA and has been a steady presence for a Los Angeles squad that has seen its pitching rotation depleted by injuries.

After being selected as the 20th overall pick by the Colorado Rockies in the 2011 MLB Draft, Anderson never quite lived up to the first-round expectations many fans had for him. Injuries hindered him early in his career, and the Rockies waived him in 2019.
From there, he spent time in the San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Seattle Mariners organizations before landing with the Dodgers on a one-year deal this spring.
He has been particularly effective in July, posting a 1.86 ERA in three outings this month.
At Oregon, Anderson was a two-time all-conference selection and garnered All-American honors in 2011. He holds school records for strikeouts in a single game (14), strikeouts in a single season (114), and career strikeouts (285).
In three seasons with the Ducks, he posted a 3.60 career ERA and struck out 282 batters 292 1/3 innings.
The MLB All-Star Game will be held Tuesday, July 19 at 5 p.m. PT and will air on Fox.
