Former Oregon Duck Nyara Sabally joins Sacramento State coaching staff

Former Oregon women’s basketball star Nyara Sabally hasn’t officially played her first professional game yet. But that isn’t stopping her from getting her coaching career underway.
Sabally, the Ducks’ leading scorer in 2021-22, has joined the Sacramento State coaching staff where she will reunite with former Oregon assistant and current Hornets head coach Mark Campbell. Sabally’s career in Eugene overlapped with that of Campbell and Sac State assistant Xavi Lopez.
In June, Sabally was selected by the New York Liberty with the No. 5 overall pick in the WNBA Draft. However, she will miss her entire rookie season due to injury.
“We are thrilled to add Nyara to our program,” Campbell said. “She is like family to our entire coaching staff and will have a major impact working with our current players. She has had unique experiences of competing at the highest level of college and international basketball. Nyara is a humble servant leader. She will work with our post players and help coach (Xavi) Lopez spearhead our international recruiting.”

Minyon Moore, who was a teammate of Sabally’s at Oregon, is also an assistant on Cambell’s staff.
“I am very grateful for this amazing opportunity to join the Sacramento State coaching staff,” Sabally said. “I look forward to working alongside great coaches and mentors that I have looked up to the past few years. I can’t wait to get on campus and get to work.”
Sabally was a two-time first-team all-Pac-12 selection for the Ducks during four years with the program. Last season, she averaged 15.4 points and 7.8 rebounds, leading Oregon in both categories.
