Former Oregon star Kayvon Thibodeaux's Madden rating revealed

The yearly tradition of Madden’s “ratings reveal week” is officially upon us.
All week long, the popular EA Sports NFL franchise is rolling out its player ratings on a positon-by-position basis. On Monday, the wide receiver and tight end ratings were revealed, while the linebackers and edge rushers followed on Tuesday.
For Oregon football fans, the rollout of the edge rusher ratings is particularly significant as it includes former Ducks’ star Kayvon Thibodeaux.
After three standout seasons in Eugene — including a 2021 campaign in which he was named a consensus All-American — Thibodeaux was selected No. 5 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He was the third edge rusher off the board after the Jacksonville Jaguars took Georgia’s Travon Walker No. 1 overall and the Detroit Lions took Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson No. 2 overall.
Thibodeaux is the highest-ranked recruit to ever sign with Oregon and will begin his career in New York with towering expectations.

But what does that all mean for his Madden 23 rating?
Ahead of his rookie season with the Giants, Thibodeaux has been issued a 75 overall rating.
While the rating might sound low at first, it stacks up pretty well when compared to his peers from the 2022 draft class. Here’s a rundown of the top Madden 23 rookie edge rushers:
- Aidan Hutchinson (77)
- Travon Walker (76)
- Kayvon Thibodeaux (75)
- George Karlaftis (74)
- Jermaine Johnson (74)
- Arnold Ebiketie (72)
- David Ojabo (71)
- Drake Jackson (69)

- Nik Bonitto (69)
Hutchinson, Walker, and Thibodeaux will be constantly compared throughout their NFL careers as all three were considered elite prospects coming out of college. For the time being, the EA Sports team that is responsible for generating the Madden ratings has decided that all three players are not yet in the same class as football’s elite edge rushers.
