One of the top remaining 2022 targets is close to a decision. On Monday Rainier Beach (Wash.) offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. announced a commitment date of April 8.

Conerly’s last official visit was to Oregon on March 11. He is also set to use his last official visit on March 25 to USC. Both the Ducks and Trojans appear to be battling for the No. 40 ranked player in the On3 Consensus rankings.

The 6-foot-5, 283-pounder is one of the top-rated offensive tackles nationally.

Here is a quick look at his scouting report from On3.

A modern day athletic offensive tackle prospect with a basketball background. Fast starter out of his stance with excellent foot quickness. Quickly works to second level, and looks to strike in open space. Dangerous when he pulls with a powerful initial punch. High-end ankle flexion and knee bend are evident. Flat-footed in a three-point stance with an athletic look. Shoots his hands with accuracy. Athleticism and initial quickness shows up at defensive tackle as well. A disruptor on that side of the ball. Frame has the ability to carry more than 300 pounds and is well proportioned.

Currently the On3 Recruiting Prediction machine favors USC with 83.6% chance to land Conerly. WeAreSC.com’s Scott Schrader has the only current prediction however. His pick is currently 55% confidence for the Trojans headed into this weekends visit.

“It was honestly a really smooth plan,” he said. “The plan they had for me was to graduate in three years.”(The) academic staff and football staff that they have laid out is really impressive. And they laid out the business degree that they had for me.”

“They kept it real and just made me feel comfortable,* he said. “I reflected on my time there and the kind of impact (I’ll have) if I come there. The plan they had for me was to play as a tackle. I feel like I could come in early anywhere and compete for a two-deep starting spot.”

Jhop’s Take:

This is pretty much what we expected. An early April commitment following his official visit to USC.

Oregon did a great job on its visit showing him how they would develop him for the NFL. Adrian Klemm and Conerly really hit it off and that is what has moved Oregon back up the list in the last two months.

The one refreshing note is Conerly has said his decision won’t be largely based on NIL deals. I’m sure it will be a factor depending on the difference in offer, but it sounds like he’s taking more into account than just the highest bidder.

We’ll see if that’s the case on decision day or not but this one seems to be favoring USC just a little and they get the last visit.
