Despite being drawn together from colleges all across America, Oregon’s new staff overcame a precarious situation and closed superbly.

In particular, they excelled by signing four athletes from right here in the Pacific Northwest: Trejon Williams, Emar’rion Winston, Dave Iuli and Justius Lowe.

The late pledge from Lowe helped offset earlier wide receiver decommitments. Lowe himself was committed to Utah for a time before backing off.

The On3 4-star from Lake Oswego measures 6-1 and 182 pounds.

He spoke with ScoopDuck about his official visit and what contributed to his choice.

“Spent the majority of the time just getting to know the coaches on a personal level,” he said, “and really start creating relationships with them.

“We also (talked) a lot of football and hung out with the players, which were great for us already committed because we are developing chemistry already.”

This was his first official visit to Eugene. What did he think of the trip?

“My favorite part of the visit was definitely going to the basketball game and being a part of the Duck family,” he said. “Just being in that supportive environment was unreal.

“Also, coach (Dan) Lanning’s speech was spot on.”

Lowe didn’t make his decision in a vacuum.

“My mom, my brother and his girl, and my sister all went with me,” he said, “and they loved it just as much as I. They enjoyed how it really just felt like one big family.

“They know I’m safe being around these coaches and players.”

Perhaps it’s not surprising Lowe is staying in-state for college.

“My favorite thing to do in Oregon is to go on hikes,” he said, “and Eugene offers that. So I definitely want to get out and enjoy it.”

Is there a plan for him to enroll early?

“I’m trying to work things out with my school to try and get me there in the spring,” he said, “but that’s not 100%. Still figuring all that stuff out.

“But I am excited to be there full-time and start my major in business-finances.”

What is his freshman year goal?

“Stay on top of my grades first and foremost,” he said, *and then obviously the whole end goal is to win a national championship.

“So I am just excited to get rolling and get to work.”

What will he be stressing prior to his arrival on campus?

“Going to work on getting stronger definitely,” he said, “and then also just working to get quicker — which means working my fast-twitch muscles.

“Then also to just polish all my routes, which is mandatory.”
