Well another week ahead and a better feel for who the contenders are in college football. Not a lot changed in my rankings this week. Which I feel is a testament to the strong rankings.

However one major surprise to myself and many of us, Utah’s epic collapse in Corvallis on Friday night. They looked really bad in that loss, the first of the season. Which for now, has to bump the out of the top ten.

So a new team enters and I moved a couple others around. But otherwise not a ton of movement this week. Here are my week four rankings for reference.

  1. Georgia – Many are quick to drop Georgia following a pedestrian win over Auburn. Look, they didn’t look great, but Auburn was fired up. And sometimes those games happen. Georgia won and I’m not going to beat them up too much for winning a close inter-conference game. Can Kentucky make it a game this week in a top 20 matchup?
  2. Florida State – On a bye last week. I’m not moving them up or down. However that second LSU loss does hurt them a bit. I’d be shocked if they stumble with Va Tech this weekend.
  3. Penn State – I keep saying I doubt Penn State and they keep smashing opponents. I’m still not sure they’ve played anyone but they are playing complete ball right now.
  4. Oregon – The big win over Stanford didn’t change my mind on the Ducks. I had them here last week and I’m sticking with it.
  5. Texas – Like I said last week, the Red River Rivalry will tell us a lot about the Horns moving forward. I’m excited to see it on Saturday.
  6. Washington – I’m not going to punish them for the semi-sluggish win over Arizona this weekend in Tucson. As I said last week, this one will get sorted out in two weeks anyways.
  7. Michigan – I still don’t like Michigan. But here they are doing what they are supposed to do. We know Nebraska is terrible and Minnesota likely won’t be much of a challenge this week either.
  8. Ohio State – I think Ohio State might be the next one out. Maryland is no joke and I think will make it a game this weekend.
  9. Alabama – The Tide are back in my top ten and only team with a loss currently. I think Oklahoma belongs in here too but I guess that one will sort it out this week with the battle against Texas. Meanwhile Bama heads to Texas A&M who just lost its starting quarterback.
  10. USC – You get to stay in the top ten for now. It would appear however, voters are finally starting to catch on that USC is 1-dimensional and frankly might not be that good. And still won’t have a quality win even if they manage to beat Arizona this weekend.
