Jireh Edwards Has Oregon High on His Board After Fifth Trip to Eugene: 'I love the Ducks'

It was a big weekend for defensive back recruiting and Oregon hosted 2026 4-star Baltimore (MD) St. Frances Academy safety Jireh Edwards for another visit.
“It was amazing being back in Eugene again,” said Edwards, On3’s No. 6 safety. “The grass is damn green in Eugene I can say that for sure. They got a great environment, they got the culture. It was great.”
Edwards has been linked to Oregon for a long time, but it had been a while since he was out West for a visit. After tripping out to Georgia, Alabama and Texas A&M, this weekend was a reminder of what Dan Lanning and the Ducks have in Eugene.
“As a player, why would you not want to go play for the Oregon Ducks?” the coveted defensive back said. “It’s a great place to get developed at.”
The No. 4 prospect in Maryland gave the highlights from his latest trip.
“Seeing practice made me open my eyes even more,” he said. “Seeing how fast they move. Similar to St. Frances, seeing how they move fast, go through drills. Seeing the scrimmage, all of them flying around,.”
Some familiar faces from the DMV stood out to Edwards during the scrimmage.
“Ify Obidegwu, St. Frances Alumni. Da’Jaun Riggs, guys from Maryland. Na’eem Offord, all those guys, he was balling. He put on a show.”
What was different about this trip for Edwards was the time he got to spend with Oregon’s head coach.
“Getting to know Coach Lanning better. Me and him took a little ride around town. Talking to him off the topic of football just about life.”

The relationship between the two continues to get stronger as Oregon makes a push for the top-100 prospect.
“He’s a great guy. He’s a great father. He definitely cares about his players,” Edwards said. “Guys that start at Oregon don’t transfer out of Oregon. He makes sure his guys are good, he cares about players, definitely people in the building he cares for. He cares for the assistant, the coaches, anybody eating at Oregon. He’s building something special.”
What makes him think Oregon is building special?
“They guys they bring in. The recruiting classes they have,” the 4-star recruit said. “The coaches. The type of standard they hold themselves up to.”
While his bond with Lanning is growing, Chris Hampton is his closest relationship on the staff.
“He cares about developing and the mentorship of his players,” the safety said of Hampton. “He cooked on the grill for his safeties. He cares on that type of level.”
On this latest trip, one thing in particular really resonated with him.
“The people, they care for you and Oregon got some great people,” he said.
Oregon continues to remain in a great spot with one of their top defensive targets.
“I love the Ducks. (They’re) Real high on my board. Real high on my list. It’s gonna be a hard decision to make July 5.”
Edwards added that he’s working from a top group of Oregon, Georgia and Alabama.
He has four official visits set ahead of his commitment on July 5.
“Alabama June 6, Texas A&M June 13. Oregon June 19. Auburn May 30,” he said.
