No. 8 Oregon Defeats UCLA 34-13 to Open Big Ten Play

No. 8 Oregon moved to 4-0 on the year Saturday night with a win over the UCLA Bruins Saturday night in Pasadena.
Here’s how the action unfolded in the Rose Bowl.
First Quarter
The Ducks were firing on all cylinders after fielding the opening kickoff. Dillon Gabriel was effective moving the Ducks down the field on the first drive, which the Ducks capped off with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Traeshon Holden.
The Ducks were a bit shaky out of the gates on defense, allowing UCLA to move down the field and handing them some free yards with penalties and struggling to get off the field on third down. The defense held the Bruins to three points on a drive that took seven minutes off the clock and the first quarter ended with Oregon out in front 7-3.
Second quarter
The second quarter was dominated by the Ducks, as they outscored the Bruins 21-7.
Bryce Boettcher‘s diving interception was the top defensive highlight of the quarter, and his play was complemented by Jordan Burch having a mini party of his own en route to a sack and a big tackle for loss. Jordan James found the end zone for six on a run blocked by Teitum Tuioti and A’Mauri Washington and Gabriel tossed a 52-yard touchdown pass to Tez Johnson.

Atticus Sappington booted a pair of deep field goals (41, 42 yards) and the half ended on a 96-yard pick fix for Bryan Addison, as Gabriel bought time and tried to connect with Johnson again, but he fell and the pass was jumped. The Ducks went into the half leading 28-10 and Terrance Ferguson got knocked out of the game after taking a hard hit over the middle from Addison.
Third quarter
The third quarter was uneventful and Oregon was outscored 3-0. Jeffrey Bassa may have been the story as he looked more like his usual self, registering a sack and a pass breakup. Jabbar Muhammad got his hands on a Ethan Garbers’ pass and tipped it up into the air before it was intercepted by Tysheem Johnson to end the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Tez Johnson’s second touchdown of the night came on a dart from Gabriel, as he rolled out to his left to find his favorite target. UCLA’s offensive struggles continued throughout the night and Austin Novosad came in to kneel this one out, as the Ducks took home a 34-13 win on the road to open conference play.
