Offensive Onslaught Fuels Oregon's 56-10 Demolition of Rutgers in Piscataway

No. 8 Oregon kicked off its game against Rutgers on Saturday night with one goal: to bounce back from a 30-20 loss at Indiana last week.
It was a bit of a rocky start for the Ducks after Gary Bryant Jr. fumbled on the Ducks’ third offensive play. Oregon’s defense looked up to the task early as freshman phenom Brandon Finney Jr. was targeted twice on Rutgers’ opening drive, including one deep pass, but he didn’t allow a completion. Rutgers put three points on the board with a 51-yard field goal, but the Ducks would keep the Scarlet Knights off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half.
Noah Whittington got the scoring started for the Ducks with a 68-yard touchdown, the longest touchdown run of the season, passing Dierre Hill Jr.‘s 66-yard run against Northwestern.
Kenyon Sadiq scored a pair of touchdowns in the first half for the Ducks, hauling in passes of 21 and 30 yards from Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, who accounted for four first down touchdown passes.
The Oregon defense was disruptive on Saturday, as Blake Purchase hauled in an interception after A’Mauri Washington knocked an Athan Kaliakmanis pass up into the air. The Ducks led 14-3 after the opening frame and wouldn’t slow down at all in the second quarter.
Redshirt freshman safety Aaron Flowers continued his stellar year, forcing a fumble on an Antwan Raymond run, which was recovered by Theran Johnson.
Whittington was on a tear in the first half, sprinting ahead for a 28-yard touchdown that made it 35-3 and put him over 100 yards as the second quarter started to wind down. That run made him Oregon’s first 100-yard rusher of the season.
Dante Moore connected with true freshman Dakorien Moore for a 34-yard touchdown strike, as the Ducks got basically whatever they wanted offensively in the first half. Moore finished the first half 14-of-18 passing for 279 yards and four touchdwons. Jamari Johnson got in on the fun with a 56-yard catch and run to set up Whittington’s third first half touchdown on a five-yard pass from Moore.

Oregon went to the locker room leading Rutgers 42-3 at the half.
Rutgers received the second half kickoff but the Scarlet Knights couldn’t do anything with it. Jordon Davison ripped off a huge run of his own for 67 yards and scored a 20-yard touchdown on the next play to give the Ducks two 100-yard rushers along with Whittington.
After Theran Johnson nearly hauled in an interception, Flowers grabbed his first college interception shortly thereafter. Moore took what the defense gave him and ripped off a 35-yard run on a quarterback scramble, but his slant pass would be picked off by Cam Miller, who outmuscled Bryant for the ball.
Hill kept the scoring going for Oregon, as he broke free for a 35-yard touchdown, with Davison leading the way as a blocker. Brock Thomas came in at quarterback for the Ducks as they lead 56-3 at the end of the the third quarter.
Oregon’s offense wasn’t as effective with the backups in, but Thomas was able to connect with Jeremiah McClellan for a 35-yard gain. After getting a mixed bag from Atticus Sappington against Indiana, Gage Hurych got some usage against Rutgers, but missed his field goal try from 44 yards out.
Ja’shon Benjamin broke the scoring drought for Rutgers with a seven-yard touchdown run to make it 56-10 late in the fourth quarter. Thomas would kneel it out after the Ducks got inside the two-minute warning and the Ducks would leave New Jersey with 750 yards of offense and a dominant victory.
