Oregon Ducks cruise to blowout win over SEMO, keep season alive

After a difficult couple of weeks at the plate, Oregon needed a big offensive performance on Saturday if it hoped to extend its season.
The Ducks got that and more and will live to fight another day after an emphatic 18-6 win over Southeast Missouri State at the NCAA tournament Lousiville Regional. Oregon’s 26 hits were the most ever by a Pac-12 team in the postseason.
Brennan Milone led the way for the second day in a row and went 5-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs. Drew Cowley went 4-for-5 with two doubles, and Josiah Cromwick was 4-for-5 with a double.
All nine Oregon starters had at least one hit, and seven Ducks had multi-hit days.
Ducks’ reliever Matt Dallas got the win after delivering one of his better performances of the season. Dallas came on to replace starter Isaac Ayon at the start of the fifth and tossed 3.0 scoreless innings while striking out three and allowing just three SEMO batters to reach base.
Ayon struggled throughout his outing but gave the Ducks four innings on a day they needed to take the burden off their bullpen as much as possible in order to save some relievers for two potential elimination games on Sunday.

Oregon took an immediate lead in the first when Milone cracked a solo homer — his second in as many days. One inning later, the Ducks busted the game open for good.
They sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning and got run-scoring hits from Sam Novitske, Gavin Grant, and Anthony Hall, and a three-run homer from Colby Shade.
Now, the Ducks will set their sights on Sunday.
They will play an elimination game at 9 a.m. PT and face the loser of the Louisville-Michigan game that is taking place Saturday afternoon.
If they win that game, they will face the winner of the Michigan-Lousiville game later Sunday afternoon in the final game of the regional, with the winner advancing to next weekend’s super regional in College Station, Texas.
Jace Stoffal is slated to get the starting nod Sunday morning for the Ducks.
