In reality, it happened exactly as it should have. A week after the program’s biggest road win ever, the Oregon Ducks looked like a team hopped up on Ambien for the first 30 minutes of action Saturday before pulling away for a 48-7 win Saturday versus Stony Brook.

The final score was…meh. But the story coming out was about the quarterback position. Because as the first half came to an end, Anthony Brown — who was more than efficient during the first half — was sacked, injured, and Ty Thompson started the second half for the Ducks. Thompson would finish the game 6/9 for 82 yards and two touchdowns, and looked calm and collected throughout, especially considering he entered the game with Oregon leading just 17-7.

And, for what it’s worth, Oregon’s defense — down more starters than not — looked dominant in the second half, pitching the shutout that many fans expected.

So…oh, boy. Prepare yourselves for six straight days of questions about the starting quarterback situation. Brown did nothing to lose his job, but Thompson did nothing to make you think he’s not ready, either.

Buckle up, fans. It’s about to get interesting.

Oh, and stay tuned to ScoopDuck through the weekend and upcoming week for the latest. And while you’re at it, debate endlessly about how good this 2021 recruiting class is, as players from that class were all over the outcome of this game.
