Oregon Ducks junior guard Jackson Shelstad has broken his right hand, the university announced in a release on Friday.

The injury is expected to sideline him for four to six weeks with the Ducks tipping off the 2025-2026 season on November 4 against Hawaii in Eugene after exhibitions against Utah and Stanford.

Shelstad has started 65 of the 67 games he’s played in during his two-year career with the Ducks. In that span he’s averaging 13.3 points, 2.7 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. The West Linn native is shooting 45.1 % from the floor and 36.4% from three-point range.

During his two seasons with the Ducks Shelstad been one of the team’s most effective free throw shooters as well, making 84.4% of his shots from the charity stripe.

He should be a key piece for Dana Altman‘s squad as Oregon hopes to make a run at the Big Ten conference title, return to the NCAA tournament and improve on their 25-10 record from last season.

In Shelstad’s absence the Ducks will lean on returners like Kwame Evans Jr. and Nate Bittle, as well as new additions like Elon guard transfer Takai ‘TK’ Simpkins, Texas forward transfer Devin Pryor and Ohio State forward transfer Sean Stewart.

Oregon will also welcome new faces like freshman guard JJ Frakes and sophomore guard Wei Lin of the Chinese Basketball Association, who just committed to the Ducks on Wednesday. The timing of Shelstad’s injury is tricky for the Ducks ahead of a new campaing, and they’ll hope to have him back on the hardwood sooner rather than later.
