Oregon lands at No. 4 in Pac-12 preseason media poll

On Thursday, the Pac-12 released its preseason media poll ahead of the 2023 season.

Dan Lanning’s Oregon Ducks have been picked to finish fourth and received 344 total points — including one first-place vote.

The USC Trojans were tabbed as preseason conference favorites by a wide margin. Lincoln Riley’s program garnered 413 total points, including 25 of the 36 first-place votes.

Washington (367 points, four first-place votes) is projected to finish second and Utah (359 points, six first-place votes was tabbed as the third-best team in the conference.

The Pac-12 is one of the more talent-rich conferences in the nation at the quarterback positions. USC, Washington, Utah, and Oregon all return their respective starting signal-callers from last season. Caleb Williams, Michael Penix Jr., and Bo Nix are all expected to be selected early in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Along with Nix, the Ducks return an explosive group of playmakers including running backs Bucky Irving and Noah Whittington, receiver Troy Franklin, and tight end Terrance Ferguson.

The Ducks also added receivers Traeshon Holden (Alabama), Gary Bryant (USC), and Tez Johnson (Troy) to bolster their passing attack.

On the defensive side of the ball, Oregon added EDGE Jordan Burch (South Carolina), linebacker Jestin Jacobs (Iowa), cornerback Khyree Jackson (Alabama), safety Evan Williams (Fresno State), and defensive back Tysheem Johnson (Ole Miss) among others.

In last year’s preseason poll, Oregon was projected to finish second and Utah was picked to win the conference. Ultimately, USC finished atop the conference standings with an 8-1 record but fell to the Utes in the Pac-12 title game.

Oregon will open its season on Sept. 2 against Portland State at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. Kickoff is scheduled for noon PT.

The Ducks will open conference play vs. Colorado in Eugene on Sept. 23.
