Oregon lands former Colorado cornerback transfer Christian Gonzalez

Dan Lanning continues to strengthen his defense piece by piece.
On Saturday, Lanning and the Oregon Ducks landed a commitment from former Colorado cornerback Christian Gonzalez.
With the addition of Gonzalez, the Ducks fill an immediate need and add a proven Pac-12 talent.
As a second-year freshman in 2021, Gonzalez earned all-conference honorable mention honors and played a team-high 811 snaps. He finished the season with 53 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss in 12 games.
Gonzalez earned a grade of 71.1 from Pro Football Focus last season, which registered as the 14th-best among all Pac-12 corners. He ranks two spots behind former Oregon cornerback Mykael Wright and five spots behind former Duck DJ James.
A 6-foot-2, 200-pound former 4-star signee from The Colony, Texas, Gonzalez was the No. 3-ranked signee in Colorado’s 2020 class.
He was On3’s No. 287 overall prospect and the No. 41 prospect.
At Oregon, Gonzalez will be reunited with newly-hired Ducks’ cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin, who spent the past two seasons as the Buffs’ cornerbacks coach.

Gonzalez becomes the second defensive player to announce their intention to transfer to Oregon since Lanning’s arrival. Earlier this week, the Ducks landed a commitment from former Washington defensive tackle Sam Taimani.
With Gonzalez in the fold, Oregon is also set to return Trikweze Bridges, Dontae Manning, Jaylin Davies, Darren Barkins, and Avante Dickerson.
The Ducks also have a commitment from Oregon 2022 cornerback Jalil Tucker.
Gonzalez figures to compete for a starting spot immediately after Wright declared for the 2022 NFL Draft, and James transferred away from the program.
