Oregon names Jerry Schumacher as next track and field, cross country head coach

Oregon has officially found the next head coach of its track and field and cross country programs.
Jerry Schumacher, the longtime head coach of Nike’s Bowerman Track Club, was officially announced as the Univerty’s next head coach on Monday. Sunday LetsRun.com and DyeState.com. both reported that Schumacher was a likely candidate.
“Jerry Schumacher is a world-class track and field leader with a unique ability to build a dynamic team atmosphere to support a first-class experience for the athletes,” Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens said in a statement. “He understands the modern athlete, the importance of building connection and developing young people to their fullest potential. His commitment to the athlete through his tireless work ethic is well known and we are excited that his leadership and passion will add to the tremendous legacy of the Oregon track and field and cross country programs.”
Since taking over at the Portland-based BTC in 2014, Schumacher has worked with countless elite athletes including former Oregon great Matthew Centrowtiz, Grant Fisher, Karissa Schweizer, and Evan Jaeger. Before his time with Nike, Schumacher was highly successful as the distance coach at Wisconsin from 1998-2008.
