Oregon quarterback Robby Ashford announces he has entered transfer portal

Oregon freshman quarterback Robby Ashford has officially entered the transfer portal.
It was reported earlier this week that Ashford could potentially leave the Ducks’ program. Early Wednesday, he took to Twitter to bid farewell to Eugene.
Ashford did not play a snap for the Ducks during his Oregon career. He was the fourth-string quarterback behind Anthony Brown, Ty Thompson, and Jay Butterfield in 2021.
But the former 4-star signee was a coveted prospect out of high school and was given a chance to compete for the Ducks’ starting job during fall camp. The Hoover, Alabama native was the No. 23 quarterback and No. 310 overall player in the On3 class of 2020 rankings.
He is also a talented baseball player who hit .200 as a reserve outfielder for the Ducks in 2021. During Oregon’s preseason camp, Ashford said he intends to play both baseball and football for as long as he is a college athlete and said Mario Cristobal and Oregon baseball coach Mark Wasikowski had developed a plan that enabled him to do both.

With Ashford’s departure, the Ducks now have Bo Nix, Thompson, and Butterfield in the fold as scholarship quarterbacks.
Ashford is the third player Oregon player known to have entered the transfer portal since Cristobal’s departure for Miami.
Starting cornerback DJ James, and reserve defensive tackle Jayson Jones have also entered the portal.
