Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson sidelined for remainder of spring due to injury

Oregon will be without its No. 1 option at tight end for the remainder of spring ball.
Junior Terrance Ferguson, an all-conference honorable mention selection last season, is dealing with an injury and will not be available for the Ducks’ final seven spring practices.
“He’s going to be down for a while,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said during his Saturday media availability. “For us, we’re going to be precautionary there with him and hold him out for the rest of spring.”
As a true sophomore last season, Ferguson caught 32 passes for 391 yards and five touchdowns. He was Oregon’s most productive tight end by a wide margin.
Ferguson did not participate in Oregon’s Thursday practice. During the 11-on-11 portion that was open to reporters that morning, Patrick Herbert worked with the Ducks’ first offensive group, while Kenyon Sadiq worked with the second group.
Oregon’s second and third-most productive tight ends — Cam McCormick and Moliki Matavao — hit the transfer portal during the offseason. Terrell Tilmon also transferred away from the program.
That leaves Herbert, a fifth-year junior, and Sadiq, a 4-star signee from the ’23 class, as Oregon’s only healthy, scholarship tight ends at the moment.
While he did not specifically name any players, Lanning noted that there are other players on Oregon’s roster who could help out at tight end for the remainder of the spring.

“The good thing for us is that we have a lot of guys on our roster that have played tight end at other times,” said Lanning. “They might not be listed at tight end on our roster, but that doesn’t mean they can’t play tight end. We have some position versatility with the guys that we have on our team.”
It has long been believed that the Ducks would look to add another scholarship tight end via the spring transfer portal — even before Ferguson’s injury occurred.
The portal officially opened on Saturday, meaning they now have the opportunity to do that.
Oregon tight end coach Drew Mehringer praised what Herbert and Sadiq have accomplished this spring, but indicated that the plan has been for the Ducks to add another scholarship tight end.
“Obviously, we’re going to have to figure something out for that,” Mehringer said. “Talking with Lanning and (offensive coordinator Will Stein) we have a really good plan going ahead, moving forward with that.
“But yeah, we’d like to get somebody else in who can help us, if you know what I mean.”
