Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein has been tabbed among the top assistant coaches in all of college football.

On Monday, Stein was named one of five semifinalists for the Broyles Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top assistant coach. Mike Bobo (Georgia), Phil Parker (Iowa), Mike Denbrock (LSU), and Sherrone Moore (Michigan) were also named semifinalists.

Stein joins Gary Crowton (2005) as the only Oregon assistant coach ever to be named a finalist for the award.

In his first year at the helm of the Ducks’ offense, Stein has led one of the top attacks in the country.

Oregon ranks second nationally in scoring offense (45.3 PPG), total offense (540.3 YPG), total yards per play (7.85), and fewest turnovers (six). The Ducks rank third in both yards per carry (5.84) and third-down conversion percentage (52.24).

Oregon is the only team in the nation to score at least 30 points in every game this season.

Under Stein, senior quarterback Bo Nix has produced the best season of his career. Nix leads the nation in both passing yards per game (325.5) and completion percentage (78.6). He is on pace to break Mac Jones’ single-season completion percentage record of 77.4. Nix also ranks second nationally in passing touchdowns (37), second in passer rating (189.82), second in total yards per game (338.8), second in total touchdowns (43), and third in total yards per play (9.07).

Junior wideout Troy Franklin is in the midst of the greatest season ever by an Oregon receiver. Earlier this year, Franklin set UO single-season records for receiving yards (1,349), receiving touchdowns (14), and 100-yard receiving games (8). Franklin’s 77 receptions this season are also tied for the most in single-season history entering the postseason.

Receiver Tez Johnson and running back Bucky Irving have both produced the best seasons of their respective careers, too.

Stein joined Dan Lanning’s Oregon staff last December after former offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham became the head coach at Arizona State. Previously, Stein served as the offensive coordinator at UTSA.

The No. 5 Ducks will look to build on this year’s offensive success this week when they face off with No. 3 Washington in the Pac-12 title game at 5 p.m. on Dec. 1 (ABC). The winner will potentially secure a trip to the College Football Playoff.

The winner of the 2023 Broyles Award will be announced at the Broyles Award ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.
