The late-game heroics from the senior guard rescued the Ducks from a humiliating loss at the hands of their in-state rivals and improved their record to 10-8 in Pac-12 play this season.
Here are three takeaways from a thrilling night at Gill Coliseum.
Rivaldo Soares’ moment
It’s impossible to ignore what Saturday meant to Rivaldo Soares and the Oregon program.
Soares has received his fair share of criticism from the Ducks’ fan base in the midst of an up-and-down season. The Ducks badly needed him to evolve into an offensive threat this year, but his field goal and three-point percentages are both worse than they were a year ago.
On Saturday, though, when Oregon looked down and out, Soares rose to the occasion. His only two buckets of the game came on the Ducks’ final two offensive possessions, and his game-winning jumper will go down as one of the more memorable moments of the year.
