Well I’ve waited long enough to make this prognostication. I’ve tried to piece together some Fall camp notes, watch for news on some other teams, try to be as level-headed as possible.

And let’s be clear, I don’t think this Oregon team goes back-to-back undefeated seasons. Could it happen? I could absolutely see it happening. I just don’t think it will. And that’s ok. They don’t need to win all of their games to get into the college football playoff, which remains the goal.

Now keep in mind, I reserve the right to have different opinions on the games later down the line. Based on what we see from this Oregon team in real games and other teams as the season kicks off. So just because I predict Oregon will beat or lose to whichever team now, doesn’t mean I’ll feel the same way 6 weeks from now.

I’m saying this because obviously we’ll be making weekly predictions on the site moving forward.

So here is my prediction, Oregon will go 10-2 this season. And here is a quick rundown of my predictions.

Montana State – Win

Nobody expects Montana State to win, I certainly don’t. But I think this is a very good first game for Oregon. They will be tough and play sound football.

Oklahoma State – Win

Pretty solid team for Oregon’s second game. I’m glad it’s at home. These opening games are going to have tremendous value for this young (er) team.

@ Northwestern – Win

Will be another solid win for Oregon. Absolutely no reason to think this team isn’t 3-0 to start the season.

Oregon State – Win

It’s going to be a long season for the Beavers. The good news is the worst they can finish is second place.

@ Penn State – Loss

Now, first loss, tough road game, hostile environment. I’m totally ok with a loss here as long as this team isn’t ran out of the stadium in the first half. But I will say this, I think if these two teams meet again later in the season, it won’t be the same result.

Indiana – Loss

Ok, hear me out. There’s going to be an inexplicable loss this season. And this one fits the profile. After the Penn State game, maybe some doubt creeps in, Indiana will play its best ball. I think Oregon loses two games this year and it could be in back-to-back weeks.

@ Rutgers – Win

Ducks head back on the road after the two straight losses and get a big win.

Wisconsin – Win

No shot from the Badgers this season. Does Luke Fickell’s seat get warm after this season?

@ Iowa – Win

Going to be a gritty, grind it out on the road win that galvanizes this team.

Minnesota – Win

They will put up a fight and it will be closer than Vegas predicts.

USC – Win

They will give Oregon everything they’ve got. And Oregon will be happy to return the favor. Close (r) game, Oregon wins.

@ Washington – Win

Unless Jedd has hidden an offensive and defensive line away from us in Seattle, Oregon will blast them into oblivion.

Final Record: 10-2

Will that be enough to get Oregon into the B1G conference title game? Good question. Regardless, I think it’s enough for Oregon to make the playoffs and possibly host a game in Eugene.

The only reason I think this team loses two games is because of the youth and inexperience. That’s why I have them losing two games early but hitting its stride to finish the season. Barring major injuries, the Oregon team that starts the season won’t look like the one that finishes the season.
