The first commitment of the Ross Douglas era is in. 2026 4-star Rochester (NY) James Monroe wide receiver Messiah Hampton has committed to Oregon.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound route runner announced his commitment to Dan Lanning‘s program Friday morning, picking the Ducks from a top group that also featured Syracuse, Miami, Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia and Penn State.

Hampton is the No. 48 player in the On300 rankings, the No. 7 wide receiver and the No. 1 prospect in the state of New York. He’s the first wide receiver to commit to Oregon in the 2026 class.

As a junior in 2024, he caught 56 passes for 869 yards and eight receiving touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. He also returned 12 punts for 421 yards (35.1 yards per return) and chipped in 59 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground.

The Empire State product was the first offer Douglas sent out after he was hired by Lanning to replace Junior Adams, who’s now coaching on the Dallas Cowboys. Hampton took multiple visits out to Eugene this spring, and Douglas picked up right where the two left off. They had a strong relationship that dates back to when Hampton was a top target for Douglas at Syracuse.

“I definitely enjoyed being out there a lot,” Hampton told ScoopDuck after an April visit. “I was telling my Mom how it was my favorite campus. It just reminded me of Batman and I don’t know the Dark Knight, matte black everywhere. It just gave me that vibe. It was definitely my favorite campus, my favorite facilities.”

With Hampton in the fold, the Ducks are in the running for a few other receivers this cycle.

2026 4-star Opa Locka (Fla.) Northwestern wide receiver Calvin Russell has Oregon in his top group and took an official visit with the Ducks this month ahead of a July 5 commitment date.

2026 4-star Lucas (Tex.) Panther Creek athlete Jalen Lott is another top target for the Ducks that’s expected to take his Oregon official visit next weekend. July 4 is the date to watch for him.
