The Ducks are in the headlines on National Signing Day as 2026 3-star Columbia (SC) AC Flora athlete Azel Banag has committed to Oregon.

The 6-foot, 177-pound athlete was offered by the Ducks on November November 12 and chose Oregon over programs like Georgia Tech, Duke, Northwestern and Wisconsin.

The newest Oregon commit is a former Harvard pledge who saw his recruitment pick up this fall. He was quick to schedule an official visit out to Eugene, which happened the weekend the Ducks faced USC.

“First of all it’s a winning program. Also just the development,” Banag told ScoopDuck following the visit. “They can develop players and they’re also not scared putting younger guys out there. They have some freshmen starting now. They used all of that. Mostly just it’s a football state. That’s what I love to see.”

Banag is the fifth defensive back in Oregon’s 2026 class as Eugene becomes more and more of a destination for elite defensive back. Now that he’s in the fold he’ll join 5-star safety Jett Washington, 4-star safety Devin Jackson, 4-star cornerback Davon Benjamin and 4-star defensive back Xavier Lherisse in Oregon’s secondary haul.

The South Carolina prep told ScoopDuck that the Ducks see him playing a nickel role in their defense once he arrives.

Relationships are a key piece in recruiting and Oregon had one in their corner with Secondary Coach Chris Hampton playing college football alongside Banag’s father Yvan at South Carolina. Banag is likely the last defensive back the Ducks will add this recruiting cycle.
