The original/late signing day has taken off and the Ducks have made some magic. Dan Lanning and co. have made a solid splash pulling in a talented athlete out of So Cal over Pac-12 rival USC.

Serra (Calif.) athlete Rodrick Pleasant has committed to Oregon moments ago. The 5-foot-10, 167-pounder is the nation’s No. 98 ranked player in the On3 Consensus Rankings. Pleasant is also the No. 7 ranked player from the state of California.

Shortly after his commitment, Oregon announced Pleasant as a part of the 2023 class officially.

USC was widely viewed as the biggest competition for Oregon in his recruitment.

Pleasant has the ability to play on either side of the ball. He’s got explosive ability as a slot receiver or could excel at cornerback.

His speed also translates to the track where Pleasant set some impressive marks in high school. As a junior he broke the California state record with a 10.14 time in the 100-meter dash as a junior. He is expected to run for the Oregon track program as well.

On3 Scouting Summary

Versatile speedster who has a claim as the fastest prospect in the 2023 cycle. Set the California state record with a historic 10.14 second mark in the 100 meters in the state finals as a junior. Also ran an outstanding 20.40 second time in the 200 meters. One of the fastest prep sprinters in the nation. Has a smaller frame at 5-foot-10 and around 170 pounds. Plays all over the field at Gardena Serra, but most likely projects as a cornerback long-term. Has the speed to stick in the hip pocket of wide receivers on Friday nights. Also shows excellent makeup speed when out of phase in the camp setting. A willing tackler as a run defender. A threat to score anytime the ball is in his hands as a receiver or kick returner. Lacks some length for the position with a neutral wing-span and will need to show he can make plays on the ball in contested situations.
