Top-50 WR Calvin Russell Locks in Commitment Date

2026 4-star Opa Locka (Fla.) Northwestern wide receiver Calvin Russell is closing in on a decision.
On Thursday, the 6-foot-5 1/2, 190-pound pass catcher locked in a college commitment date of July 5. The news was first reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Russell will make his college commitment from a top 8 that consists of Florida, Florida State, LSU Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon and Syracuse. He began his slate of official visits with a trip to nearby Florida earlier this month.
He’s ranked the No. 33 player in the On3 Industry Rankings, the No. 4 wide receiver and the No. 2 prospect in Florida. As a junior in 2024, he caught 39 passes for 704 yards and 13 touchdowns (according to MaxPreps) en route to capturing a Florida 3A State Title under head coach Teddy Bridgewater.

The Sunshine State prep is also gifted on the hardwood as a standout basketball player, with reported offers from schools like Penn State and Arizona State.
Russell has a longstanding relationship with new Oregon wide receivers coach Ross Douglas that dates back to his time on the Syracuse staff. Douglas built on that relationship earlier this spring, when the 4-star route runner visited Oregon for a spring practice in April.
The Ducks signed a pair of receivers from the high school ranks last cycle, but do not have a wide receiver commitment in the 2026 recruiting class. Russell is one of Douglas’ top targets along with 4-star Rochester (NY) James Monroe wide receiver Messiah Hampton and 4-star Lucas (Tex.) Panther Creek athlete Jalen Lott.
