Watch: Tosh Lupoi discusses progress made by Oregon's defense midway through fall camp
During the early stages of Oregon’s fall camp, defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi mentioned that the Ducks would need leaders to emerge all over the field. After 12 preseason practices, a handful of players are filling that mold.
During his post-practice media availability on Thursday, Lupoi highlighted Jeffrey Bassa and Bryan Addison as players who have taken on leadership roles. But he also noted that there is still work to be done.
“We need to get better everywhere; there’s no doubt,” Lupoi said. “We’re gonna address the “how” and not just say, ‘Get better.’ But seeing our group overall and their commitment to being elite competitors. … What I’m starting to see after a couple of weeks is the leadership starting to rise.”

Lupoi was asked specifically if he has been surprised to see any particular players step up as leaders and provided an insightful answer.
“I think what’s necessary, being a new staff, is we’re not going to really put much on the past and feedback from others,” Lupoi said. “It’s more so an open stage for anyone in that role. If you work your butt off on the field and off the field, you’re gonna gain respect from your teammates.”
