There’s no question that quarterback is the most important position in football and Oregon redshirt sophomore Dante Moore looks poised to replace Dillon Gabriel after the Heisman Finalist was selected by the Cleveland Browns in this year’s NFL Draft.

Provided Moore wins the starting job in Eugene, he’ll be the third starting quarterback for Will Stein and the Ducks in as many years (Nix, Gabriel). There have been high expectations for Moore since the day he announced he’d be transferring to Oregon, even if it meant the former top-five recruit would sit behind Gabriel to develop for a year.

The Detroit native only played 29 snaps across five games for the Ducks last season, completing seven of his eight passes for 49 yards. But now’s the time for him to finally let it rip. The opportunity to start is his for the taking in 2025, and he’ll have to hold off fellow passer Austin Novosad for the job.

On3’s Andy Staples recently tabbed Moore as the fifth-best quarterback in his Big Ten quarterback rankings.

Staples: Moore is a fascinating case study. A five-star recruit who flipped from Oregon to UCLA — presumably to play immediately — he played for UCLA as a true freshman but then transferred to Oregon knowing he’d have to sit behind Dillon Gabriel for a year.

The Ducks doesn’t hesitate to dip into the portal for a QB when they feel they don’t have the guy on the roster. But there was no doubt Moore was Gabriel’s heir apparent. Coach Dan Lanning and OC Will Stein have given us a pretty big hint that Moore will be good.
