Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy cornerback and newly-minted On3 five-star prospect Ellis Robinson IV planned to be at Penn State when the Nittany Lions hosted Ohio State next weekend. But IMG’s bye week meant that he would spent this week at home in Connecticut, so Robinson switched gears and will now attend the Nittany Lions’ White Out matchup with Minnesota on Saturday evening.

The nation’s No. 7 prospect in the Class of 2024 according to the On3 Consensus rankings, Robinson has a long history with the Nittany Lions that predated his move down south.

“Penn State was my very first offer,” he said. “They made me a priority from the start and nothing has changed. I speak coach Terry Smith, Alan Zemaitis and Rashad Elby, and coach [James] Franklin and I have talked several times as well. I’m looking forward to the White Out experience. It’s my first White Out game.”

Robinson was last in town for Penn State’s matchup against Illinois last October, when he was still enrolled at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, N.Y. He also visited for the Lasch Bash Recruiting Barbecue in 2021. Robinson transferred to IMG Academy before his junior season and has established himself as one of the top defensive backs in the country. He’s one of three five-star prospects in the early On3 rankings.

Scouting Penn State target Ellis Robinson IV

Robinson’s scouting summary from On3 considers the 5-foot-11.5, 170-pound prospect a shutdown cornerback.

“Ball-hawking defensive back with elite length and ability to make plays on the ball as a high school underclassman. Dominated competition in New York’s Catholic league as a sophomore, bringing in eight interceptions. Made several impressive, acrobatic picks. Has advanced ball skills as a cornerback, which he pairs with outstanding length. Measured in at 5-foot-11.5, 169 pounds with a 6-foot-7 wing-span prior to his junior season. Also tests as a very good athlete, running a 4.56-second electronically-timed 40-yard dash. Transferred to IMG Academy for his junior season and should see an uptick in competition as a high school upperclassman.”

Alabama and Georgia appear to be early frontrunners for Robinson, with the Crimson Tide holding the edge on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. He took in a game in Tuscaloosa earlier this month and also has taken visits to Florida, Georgia, LSU and Miami this calendar year.
