Breaking: Penn State lands four-star Running Back Alvin Henderson

Penn State picked up commitment No. 12 in its Class of 2025 Thursday, adding running back Alvin Henderson from Elba, Ala. A four-star prospect and member of the On300, Henderson is now the top-ranked player in PSU’s class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, coming in at No. 110 nationally. He’s now the fourth player in the class to hold a four-star rating in the industry rankings.

The addition of Henderson also moved Penn State up two spots in On3’s Team Rankings. The Lions came into the day with an overall class grade of 89.766. That’s now up to 90.471, which puts Penn State fourth overall in the Big Ten and No. 13 in the nation. Ohio State, USC, and Oregon currently rank ahead of Penn State.

Understanding On3’s Team Rankings

For those unfamiliar with On3’s Team Rankings, there are two major differences compared to other sites that you need to know.

1) We use the Industry Rankings, which puts together all four major recruiting sites – On3, 247, Rivals and ESPN – to find a cumulative score for each prospect. It’s not based on just On3’s rankings.

2) On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings solve the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle by totaling the highest-rated commitments for each team based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power Four schools. With it being so early in the cycle, that average is now up to four prospects. It was at three just a few days ago when Tatsch committed.

So, if you’re wondering why Penn State ranks lower at On3 when compared to 247 and Rivals, it’s because we’re aiming to project which position the Nittany Lions are on pace to finish come National Signing Day.

Around the Big Ten

With 12 commitments now, Penn State holds the most commitments in the conference, but that gap has closed significantly in recent weeks. Ohio State remains at the top spot overall with 11 commitments total. Of those 11 players, all but one hold a four-star rating in the industry rankings. In fact, seven rank inside the top 100 overall, three of whom hold a five-star rating: cornerbacks Na’eem Offord and Devin Sanchez, as well as quarterback Tavien St. Clair.

USC has surged in recent weeks, going from one commitment to 11 in just three weeks. The Trojans have two five-star players – defensive lineman Justus Terry and quarterback Julian Lewis – and also hold commitments from three other players who rank in the top 100 nationally. USC is now all the way up to No. 3 nationally and are showing no signs of slowing down.

As for Oregon, the Ducks suffered a bit of a setback recently, losing On300 wide receiver Adrian Wilson. They currently have five commitments total and rank just above Penn State at No. 12 nationally. Quarterback Akili Smith Jr. and wide receiver Dallas Wilson remain their top-ranked players.

Behind Penn State, you’ll find just two other Big Ten teams within the top 25, with Michigan ranked No. 22 currently and Wisconsin sitting at No. 24. The Wolverines still hold just three commitments, with quarterback Carter Smith and defensive lineman Bobby Kanka both earning four-star ratings.

The Badgers have earned seven commitments, including four-star cornerback Jaimier Scott and offensive tackle Michael Roeske.
