One of Penn State’s most important 2025 recruits confirmed Tuesday that he’s locked in an official visit with the Nittany Lions in Top 100 offensive lineman Michael Carroll. A Penn State legacy prospect, Carroll is set to return for what will be his seventh visit on June 14-16. That’s the same weekend head coach James Franklin and his staff plan to also host all of their committed players.

By the time it’s all said and done, those seven visits will likely be the most he takes to any other school, but there’s also no shortage of competition now for the Central Bucks East prospect.

Just yesterday, Carroll announced a Top 12 that, in addition to Penn State, included Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Rutgers, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA and Wisconsin. That announcement came just a week after he made a trip down south to see Alabama, Clemson and Georgia. He finished up that road trip with a visit to Michigan on March 30.

Up until now, the Wolverines were the only other school that Carroll had publicly announced he’ll take an official visit to. That’s locked in for the final weekend before the July dead period, June 21-23.

The Wolverines have long been considered Penn State’s main competition for Carroll, but with multiple SEC powerhouses showing serious interest now, this recruitment may end up being a bit more difficult than Penn State originally thought it may be when they offered him last summer.

“Michigan and Penn State are both really pushing hard,” Carroll told Blue White Illustrated following his most recent visit in January. He went on to add, “I think Penn State is definitely up there. They’re probably top three. I really like them.”

Just last week, Carroll went in-depth on his visit to Michigan with The Wolverine’s EJ Holland. He specifically noted what new head coach Sherronne Moore’s message was to he and his family.

“I was there with my whole family and my grandparents. He told me ‘you’re a special talent, and you’re going to succeed wherever you go.’ But he really believes Michigan would be a perfect fit for me. He sees me as an impact player. He can’t promise me that I’ll play right away, but he sees me as a great fit.”

Carroll is expected to make a decision at some point in July. On3 rates him as the third-best interior offensive lineman in the country following its rankings update about a month ago. He’s now ranked No. 69 in the entire nation for the 2025 class.
