Penn State news, notes, and updates for Oct. 6 include a look at the Lions’ Class of 2024, a new mock draft, and more.

It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a nugget on the Lions’ 12th-ranked Class of 2024. Despite not having any five-star recruits, Penn State has the ninth-month ‘blue-chip’ commits on offense with nine. It is a figure that ties with Ohio State and Florida State and is the third-most in the country behind Georgia (12) an Texas A&M (10).

“Penn State’s class hasn’t gotten as much attention as others, but James Franklin and his staff are recruiting at an elite level in this class,” On3’s Keegan Pope writes. “The Nittany Lions don’t have any five-stars, but athlete Quinton Martin, tight end Luke Reynolds and offensive lineman Cooper Cousins each rank in the top 10 nationally at their positions. Quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer has been a major stock-riser since his performance at the Elite 11 Finals, and he has one of the country’s best offensive line classes coming with him to Happy Valley.”

In other news, Penn State tackle Olu Fashanu, defensive end Chop Robinson, and cornerback Kalen King are all projected to be day one picks in the 2024 NFL mock draft from CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson. Pro Football Focus had a similar opinion the other day. All three are playing at a high level for the 5-0 Nittany Lions, who are finishing out their lone bye week of the 2023 season.

Quote of the day

“Thank god he’s been healthy throughout. He’s on a plan where he’s a guy that we don’t have to be super aggressive with. He’s a guy that we are aggressive enough with so that he doesn’t lose his edge from a strength and power standpoint. But at the same time, as far as him trying to make these crazy strength and power gains during the season, we don’t have to do that with him.”
