Penn State news, notes, and updates for May 17 include a Lions commit planning to visit another school plus a new offer and much more.

It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start in the Class of 2025. Toms River, N.J., four-star offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews, who committed to Penn State on Jan. 30, will take an unofficial visit to see an SEC program later this month. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound junior-to-be will be at Georgia on May 31. It marks his first trip elsewhere since he came to State College in late January before committing two days later. Matthews is the No. 62 Class of 2025 player overall, the No. 7 player at his position, and the top player in the Garden State according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

“When we were going through the 2025 rankings, we thought he was one of the high-floor, safer projections at offensive line,” On3 director of scouting Charles Power told BWI in January. “We did that back in August and September and really liked what we saw from him. But he also has that upside, given the length and the movement skills.

“For Penn State to land one of the early top 2025 offensive linemen, it’s a really good start for their class.”

In other news, the Lions have sent out a new quarterback offer. They joined the race for Philadelphia Roman Catholic four-star Class of 2026 passer Semaj Beals. He already holds numerous Power Five offers.

Quote of the day

“They’re a top five school for me, for sure. They also check all the boxes. I took an unofficial visit there earlier in the year. They have a fantastic community and it looks like they’re working their way to winning a national championship. They have that type of mentality.”
