Penn State stays hot on recruiting trail, adds four-star OL Jven Williams

Penn State continues to stay hot on the recruiting trail, this time picking up a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Jven Williams.
Listed at 6-foot-4, 290 pounds, Williams is listed as an interior offensive lineman and will likely play guard at the next level. He’s ranked No. 87 nationally in the On3 Consensus player rankings, coming in at No. 6 for his position. Williams is also the top-ranked player in Pennsylvania.
“First off, I would [like] to thank my mom and pops. Thank you for all the sacrifices you have made for me and thank you for providing me and teach life long lessons,” Williams tweeted in regards to his commitment to Penn State. “Thank you Coach Steve [O’Neil] and Ross Rucker for guiding me through the recruiting process and being there for me on and off the field! Lastly I would like to thank the big man upstairs! Thank you God for listening to my prayers and getting me to this point in my life! With that being said…I’M STAYING HOME!”

Williams earned an offer from the Nittany Lions back in September when he attended the game against Villanova. He also camped with Penn State in the summer and returned for a one-on-one visit with the staff in December.
“When I got there, all their coaches were outside waiting for me. That was great. I appreciated that,” Williams said, following his most recent visit. “We got to see a ton of their gear and tour facilities. We also got into some big cars to drive around campus and show me around. One of the main highlights was the time I spent with Coach [Phil] Trautwein and his assistant, Coach [Wendy] Laurent.

“We went into his O-line meeting room and he showed me a bunch of stuff. He showed me his blocking techniques, the different ways he coaches, all of that. That was awesome to see. Just really getting a feel for how he really is, and also what the facilities were like. That was the main thing.”
Williams added that one thing that’s really helped Penn State emerge as a serious contender is how consistent they’ve been in pursuing him.
“They’ve been very consistent. I’m in touch with them a lot,” he said. “I talk to Coach Trautwein a pretty good amount. Chris Mahon, their recruiting coordinator, is another guy I have a very good relationship with. Coach Franklin reaches out now and then, too. I think we have a very good relationship starting. They’ve been great since they offered.”
