Penn State OL Drew Shelton accepts Senior Bowl invitation
The Nittany Lions’ contingent of Senior Bowl participants grew again on Tuesday afternoon. Shortly after the announcement that running back Nick Singleton had become the fifth to join the showcase game for NFL scouts, the Penn State football program added another.
Drew Shelton, the Nittany Lions’ senior left tackle, has also accepted an invitation to participate in the Senior Bowl. The Senior Bowl is set to be played on Jan. 31, 2026 in Mobile, Alabama.
Other invited players who have also accepted spots in the Senior Bowl include Singleton and fellow running back Kaytron Allen, plus defensive linemen Zane Durant and Dani Dennis-Sutton, as well as safety Zakee Wheatley.
Drew Shelton makes his mark
This season, Shelton was one of the mainstays of the Penn State roster on either side of the ball. He finished second in game reps with 721 over 12 games played, only two reps behind center Nick Dawkins.
Though graded up and down by PFF for his performance through the course of the season, Shelton’s output was his highest grade overall in his four-year Penn State career. He notched career bests for pass blocking (70.4) and run blocking (65.3).

Determined to elevate himself and his draft stock by coming back to Penn State for a fourth and final season of college football, Shelton also attempted to create versatility and flexibility on the line. In an interview with offensive line coach Phil Trautwein last summer, he indicated as much.
“He’s doing good, playing left tackle. Just making sure, again, he gets some right tackle. But he’s playing left tackle right now,” said Trautwein. “He had a good spring. We limited him a little bit, because he played a lot of ball, and at the time when spring ball happened, we only played like two months before that. So just making sure they’re all fresh and ready to go.
“We got some things we’re working on right now in the off-season to make sure that his game gets where he needs to be, because he wants to be a high draft pick. So just working on that.”
