Penn State news, notes, and updates for April 18 include a new seven-round NFL mock draft, headlines of the day, and more.

It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a new seven-round NFL mock draft. Dane Brugler of The Athletic projected all 257 picks a week before this year’s pro-selection process begins. He has a near record-setting number of former Penn State players going off the board over the three-day event, starting with left tackle Olu Fashanu at No. 14 to the New Orleans Saints.

“Considering the Saints’ depth chart and the players expected to be drafted in this range, offensive tackle makes too much sense. And Fashanu might be the best-case scenario for New Orleans,” Brugler writes. He also called former Nittany Lions defensive end Chop Robinson a first round pick, slotting him at No. 27 overall to Arizona.

“Robinson doesn’t have the body of work (15 tackles, four sacks over 10 games in 2023) that teams ideally target this early, but his first-step explosion is different than any other pass rusher in this class,” Brugler writes.

Moving on to Day 2, Brugler has defensive end Adisa Isaac going off the board next to Washington with the No. 67 overall selection, which is a third-round choice. From there, former Penn State tight end Theo Johnson is projected to go in Round 3 to Cincinnati, with offensive lineman Caedan Wallace also going off the board then to Green Bay.

Center Hunter Nourzad is labeled as a fourth-round pick. Brutal then has former Penn State defenders Curtis Jacobs and Kalen King going in Round 6. And, if he’s right, cornerback Johnny Dixon would be the ninth Nittany Lions to go in Round 7. It would tie the program record set in 1996.

Quote of the day

“I really enjoyed getting to talk with my position coaches. The coaches are genuine and that’s one of the things I admire most about [James] Franklin and Trautwein. Getting to see the coaches and players in action really puts on display just how close they are. It’s no doubt a culture I would want to be a part of.”
