Penn State Football National Signing Day

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with Class of 2024 quarterback superlatives from On3 director of scouting Charles Power. Penn State four-star signee Ethan Grunkemeyer has the best mechanics in the class, according to Power. The Lewis Center, Ohio native is a four-star in the On3 Industry Rankings, the No. 111 overall player, and the No. 8 player. He will enroll early, as well.

Ethan Grunkemeyer is one of the most natural passers in the 2024 cycle,” Power writes. “The Penn State signee showed his live arm and fluid mechanics on the camp circuit over the summer and was a standout at the Elite 11 Finals. He carried that momentum onto the field as a senior, where he was one of the most improved 2024 quarterbacks during the fall.

“Grunkemeyer had by far the best season of his high school career as a senior, completing 66.3% of his passes for 3,517 yards and 39 touchdowns against nine interceptions while leading Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy on a playoff run. The smooth release, strong arm and overall coordination have been evident over the past nine months.”

In related news, Grunkemeyer was one of 25 seniors who signed with the Lions on Wednesday during the early National Signing Day. Sixteen of them will start classes when the spring semester begins in January. Penn State has a top 15 Class of 2023 that could very well finish inside of the top 15 when all is said and done in January.

“I think if you look at our class, it’s pretty well-rounded,” James Franklin said. “We really were able to fill needs at every position so we can continue to develop across the board.”

Quote of the day

“It’s about about takeaways, tackling, and effort. We’re going going to install those three things. That’s our DNA every day: Takeaways, tackling, and effort. Within that, we’re going to be an aggressive, attacking defense. I think one thing we’ve been known for is just being able to do a really good job of disguising things. And, making that quarterback have to really process when the ball gets snapped. We take a lot of pride in that.

“There’s a lot of similarities to even when [Brent] Pry was here, and same thing with Manny. There are a lot of similarities in the way we think, believe, and do things. To me, it’s about letting your guys play fast, very physical., and we just want to attack. I want to guys to play free.”
