Penn State is the Big Ten champs in wrestling for the third year in a row. It towered over the field in Northwestern on Saturday and Sunday. Head coach Cael Sanderson’s team won the team race by 44.5 points. Like Lilledahl (125 pounds), Tyler Kasak (157), Mitchell Mesenbrink (165), Levi Haines (174), and Carter Starocci (184) all won titles. And, all 10 Nittany Lions hit the podium. Meanwhile, in Ann Arbor, Guy Gadowksy’s red-hot men’s hockey team swept Michigan in a first-round Big Ten tournament series. Penn State won 6-5 in overtime Friday before clinching a spot in the semifinals against a to-be-determined opponent with a 5-2 win on Saturday. Back in State College, the women’s hockey team won its third straight AHA title by beating Mercyhurst 4-1. That means they are heading to the NCAA Tournament, as well.
“We appreciate the Roar Zone and everybody in Hockey Valley that have given the opportunity to allow these women to thrive,” coach Jeff Kampersal said, per The Daily Collegian.
Added captain Tessa Janecke:
“It doesn’t get old doing that every year. I think there’s a new goal to always be on top. So I was just proud of this group, like it didn’t matter who scores at the end of the day, it’s just that we win.”
