Penn State football picked up a massive commitment in the Class of 2024 with long-time top target Quinton Martin. The four-star athlete from Belle Vernon high school chose Penn State over his hometown team Pitt and rival Nittany Lions rival, Ohio State. Martin is the 41st overall player in the On3 industry rankings. While he’ll play running back for Penn State, he’s listed as the third-ranked athlete in the country and the top player in Pennsylvania.

Martin’s commitment came on the heels of a personal day with the staff last Monday. When speaking with Blue White Illustrated reporter Ryan Snyder, Martin stressed having his parents with him as a big part of the trip.

“What I liked the most was just having my parents up there with me,” Martin said. “I think it was great for them to experience everything that Penn State has to offer. We really got to see a lot,” Martin said after the visit.

Penn State lands a whale in the class of 2024

They’ll also discuss his fit at running back, his positional outlook long team, and what he brings to the team.

One of the biggest things is that factored into Quinton Martin making his decision now, was his personal day with the Penn State Staff on March 27 Snyder says,

“So from our talk, he said absolutely they were thinking about it [committing]. And you do the right thing, right? You go home, you take, ten, 11, 12 days since then [to think about committing].

So while Penn State built a solid foundation for the class, including Martin’s close friend Anthony Speca, the class needed something more to get it started,

“They needed the John Mitchells; they needed the Quinton Martins to get this class up to where Penn State fans expected it to be. I mean, remember, just a couple of weeks ago, they were at number 19 in the rankings.”

Position is still TBD

As for Martin’s position, that is still a huge mystery.

“I love watching him play cornerback because it is so bizarre. It looks like you’ve walked the mike linebacker out over a receiver and you ask “hey shut this guy down: and he does it. But the potential is there because, as you mentioned, it’s not just that he’s speedy, it’s not just that he’s a great athlete, it’s that he could be anywhere from 205 to 235 pounds. Anywhere in that range is where I think his physical development could end up,” T-Frank said on the video.
