Breaking Penn State Lands Pa Standout Runner Tiqwai Hayes 1

With Penn State now up to four commitments in the Class of 2025, the Nittany Lions are eligible for On3’s early Class of 2025 Team Rankings. James Franklin and his staff have added two players coming out of White Out weekend, as Penn State added four-star linebacker DJ McClary (No. 109 nationally) from Jersey City, N.J. on Sunday, followed by Aliquippa, Pa., running back and three-star prospect Tiqwai Hayes on Monday.

Overall, the class holds two four-star commitments and two three-star commitments. Four-star running back Kiandrea Barker, who plays at The Woodlands High School in Texas, currently ranks No. 252 in the On3 Industry Rankings. Safety Omari Gaines from Newark, N.J., holds a three-star rating at No. 427.

The addition of Hayes on Monday now has Penn State ranked No. 7 overall in On3’s Team Rankings. They hold an overall class grade of 90.255.

Understanding On3’s Team Rankings

For those unfamiliar with On3’s Team Rankings, there are two major differences compared to other sites that you need to know.

1) We use the Industry Rankings, which uses all four major recruiting sites – On3, 247, Rivals and ESPN – to find a commutative score. It’s not based on just On3’s rankings.

2) On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings solve the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle by totaling the highest-rated commitments for each team based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power 5 schools. Currently, that average total is just two players.

So, if you’re wondering why Penn State may be lower at On3 when compared to 247 and Rivals at times, it’s because we’re aiming to project where the Nittany Lions will truly finish come National Signing Day.

Around the Big Ten

With Michigan holding just two commitments currently and Ohio State earning just one, Penn State is the second-ranked team in the Big Ten, behind only Oregon, who’s set to join the conference officially next year. The Ducks also hold four commitments with an overall score of 93.403. Three of their four commitments rank among the Top 100 nationally.

Nebraska is the only other Big Ten program that has reached three commitments or more in the class. The Cornhuskers are ranked No. 14 with a grade of 85.340.

Overall, Alabama and Georgia hold the top-ranked classes at the moment with six and seven commitments, respectively. Behind Oregon, you’ll find LSU, Oklahoma and Notre Dame before Penn State in seventh.
