Purdue Basketball Recruiting Update

Hoops recruiting news and notes from late last week.
• First off, here’s our interview with Jacob Webber at LaLumiere on Thursday, Sept 4. We’ll follow up with a story next week about his upbringing as a jump-shooter.

• Sinan Huan, the 7-footer from China, visits officially this weekend. I’ve sensed a general lack or urgency at a few positions this recruiting cycle, center actually being one of them, as Purdue is working its you-know-what off on 2027’s Isaiah Hill and can always go get a one-year stopgap at the 5 through the portal or really commit to Raleigh Burgess there if they haven’t already.
But it seems as if Purdue is all in on this one and wants Huan, who is supposed to visit Team Passport, Illinois, next weekend, as well. He’s gotten a bunch of SEC offers through the process, too, but we’re unaware of anything going on visit-wise beyond Purdue and Illinois.
Purdue will also keep after Jamyn Sondrup, but he’s now ostensibly a 2028 recruit. It’s assumed he’ll still commit somewhere before his mission, but whether that’s certain or not, we don’t know. It would be a good idea to do so before disappearing for two years. Purdue or Washington. We’d expect it to be Purdue if he does commit pre-mission, but that’s assuming things haven’t changed since July.
• One to watch: Purdue is showing interest in forward Rivers Knight, a 6-9 forward at LaLumiere who can really shoot. The North Carolina native will get a look up close next week, presumably, when Purdue comes up to LaLu to see Webber.

Some undercurrents here that could align with a recruiting-steal story. Knight was hurt this summer, played bad and fell out of shape. He’s described to us as a player who is better in structure than pickup or summer ball.
Thursday, Knight looked very good in LaLumiere’s first practice of the year, which involved a good deal of competitive stuff. He shot really well, rebounded, tried hard and looked better physically than you’d think a player everyone says is “out of shape” would.
He’s not 6-10 like Quinn Costello, but he’s going to have a sturdier body, clearly.
• After seeing Hill Wednesday, Painter went to Texas to see Bo Ogden yesterday, then 2027s Reese Alston and Chase Richardson today. (BN)
