SMU landed a commitment from former TCU pledge and 2026 Humble (Tex.) Summer Creek defensive lineman Amontre Harris after his latest visit to the Hilltop on Friday.

Harris committed to the Horned Frogs early in 2025, but decommitted shortly after he first visited SMU. He’s visited the Hilltop multiple times recently. The first visit back in February set the table for the Mustangs to pull off the flip.

“The visit was amazing,” Harris told On3. “Great environment for people who are looking for colleges and stuff I’m saying especially for athletes and stuff like that. It’s a really good place. They showed me a lot. It’s a comfortable environment. You’re gonna meet a lot of great people.

“The facility is amazing and the campus, I actually love. A lot of spaces to take pictures and just meet, lot of libraries. The football is actually a great turf. It’s a good place to be.”

From head coach Rhett Lashlee to defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux, the Mustangs let him know they wanted him. SMU was first to offer Harris, just a few days before TCU did.

“I talked to all the coaches. The defensive coach, the head coach, I talked to everyone,” Harris said. “They were amazing people. Really good people to get to know. They’ll show you the real them. It’s no facade. None of that. This is them, you know what I’m saying?”

In 2024, Harris notched 52 tackles with 18 tackles for loss and 10 sacks for the powerhouse program. Houston, Tulsa, Memphis and others have offered him.

Ford joins 2026 Mesquite (Tex.) Poteet defensive lineman Keith Dotie in committing to the Mustangs after its private spring game on Friday. SMU has five commitments on board board now in the 2026 class.
