SMU is looking to get back on track after a loss at then-No.1 5 Memphis on Sunday, 62-59. East Carolina will host SMU before the Pirates head to Moody Coliseum on Wed., March 6 for a 7 p.m. CT matchup on ESPN+.

About SMU: SMU had a season-high 19 offensive rebounds, finished plus-8 (43-35) on the glass and held Memphis to 17 points below its season average. In the second season under Lanier, the Mustangs’ defense is among the best in the country. SMU is holding opponents to 36.6 percent (1st AAC, 2nd NCAA) from the field, holding 13 of 15 opponents under 42.0 percent. The three-point defense is 26.3 percent (1st AAC, 4th NCAA). Zhuric Phelps leads the Mustangs in scoring with 14.3 points per game and Chuck Harris adds 12.7 points per night.

About East Carolina: RJ Felton leads ECU with 16.6 points per game (7th in AAC) and Brandon Johnson and Ezra Ausar round out the Pirates’ top scorers with 14.9 and 13.6 points per game respectively. Johnson leads the team on the glass with 9.2 rebounds per contest which ranks as second-best in the league and has recorded six double-doubles including three in the team’s past six games.

The Pirates are off to their best three-game start in American Athletic Conference play since the 2019-20 season when ECU started 2-1. ECU also won back-to-back games in the AAC with the win over Temple for only the sixth time since joining the league prior to the 2014-15 season.

SMU holds a 20-6 series lead over East Carolina. SMU has won 15 of the past 17 meetings. The past 17 meetings have been since the teams have been in The American.

UP NEXT: The Mustangs host Temple on Tuesday and Tulsa on Jan. 20 before another set of road games. SMU heads up I-35 to Denton to face North Texas on Jan. 25 followed by a game at Wichita State on Jan. 28.
