Louisville DT William Spencer commits to SMU

SMU continues to add depth to its defensive line. This time the Mustangs nab William Spencer away from fellow ACC member Louisville.
Spencer measures at 6’5 and 305 pounds. Although Spencer just finished his redshirt freshman season, the former Cardinal has the size to produce right away.
Coming out of high school, Spencer committed to Louisville to play on the interior of the offensive line. Spencer had offers from the likes of Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Michigan State, and others.

Since arriving at Louisville, William has made the transition from the interior of the offensive line to the interior of the defensive line.

In his redshirt freshman season, Spencer recorded four total tackles in games against Georgia Tech, SMU, and Kentucky.
Although his stats may not jump off the page, with William’s size, he could (eventually) play a similar role to Tank Booker as a true nose tackle in the defense. Booker was never at the top of the stat sheet in tackles, but his role in the defense unlocked his teammates to make countless big plays. Spencer will look to find a similar role at SMU.
Spencer has three years of eligibility remaining.
