Rick Hart comments on search to bring Andy Enfield from USC to SMU

Oregon senior guard Kario Oquendo has committed to SMU, he announced on Instagram on Friday. He entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 10 looking for a new home for his final year of eligibility.

This past season, Oquendo averaged 7.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game for the Ducks. There, he helped play a role in Oregon winning the 2024 Pac-12 Tournament championship. Despite this, he played a total of 18 minutes during the Ducks two NCAA Tournament games. This season, he shot 45.9 percent from the field and scored 15 points against USC in a matchup this year.

He started his college career in 2020 at Florida Southwestern State College. He transferred to Georgia in 2022 before spending one season in Eugene. Now, he’s Andy Enfield’s first addition to the SMU roster after taking over for Rob Lanier.

He came out of the gates hot after transferring from Georgia. He scored in doubled figures in eight of the first 12 games of Oregon’s season, including two 20-point performances during non-conference action. After that, he would only log 10 or more points in four games after that.

At Georgia, Oquendo averaged 12.7 points and 2.6 rebounds during the 2022-23 season.

Oquendo is a former three-star recruit and was the No. 167 overall player in the nation from the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

SMU guards Denver AnglinZhuric Phelps and Ricardo Wright entered the portal this month. SMU also saw forwards Xavier Foster and Mo Njie head to the Transfer Portal earlier this month.
